Who is Speerbob? My name is Robert Speerbrecher, better known on eBay and in the pen community as Speerbob. That is my beautiful wife Tanya with me. Speerbob is a name I was assigned when I signed up for my first email account in 1989 and my eBay account in 1999. I have used it ever since. I can't change it now, 1,000's of pen collectors around the world know and trust Speerbob. Tanya and I live in Rock Hill, SC, USA. We have been in the pen business for over 24 years including 3 years in Thailand where we still have a house. I sold my first item on eBay in September 1997! That's only two years after eBay was founded. I have pen business connections and pen friends all over the world so I often find special pens that you don’t see every day. One thing you can be absolutely certain of with Speerbob is that you will receive exceptional service, excellent prices, quality products, and 100% guaranteed satisfaction or return the pen for your money back. I even offer free return shipping. Check out my very high eBay feedback HERE, you'll know you're buying from a pen dealer you can trust!
What and where do I sell? I sell pens and pen ephemera on eBay and and occasionally at a US pen show. However, you are always welcome to contact me directly for a better price than my eBay price. I sell new pens, vintage pens, new-old-stock pens, and pre-owned pens. I am an authorized dealer for Yafa pens (Conklin. Monteverde, Diplomat, Pineider and Stipula primarily). I often discover and buy inventories of new-old-stock pens and buy pen collections. I also buy new pen close-outs, liquidations and other special deals. If you have pens to sell I will pay you a very fair price so we both come away from the deal happy. (That's my Mom in the photo with Tanya and I at the 2013 Washington pen Show)
How did I get here? People often ask me how I got into the pen business. I owe it all to Bert! In the summer of 1999 I walked into Bertram's Inkwell at Dulles Town Center in Sterling, Virginia. I had never been in a pen store and was fascinated. At that time my pen "collection" consisted of 3 Waterman Phileas rollerballs. Phil Himes was behind the counter and I asked him if they needed any part time help. He told me to come back Friday and meet Bert Osar, the owner. I met Bert on Friday. He asked if I knew anything about pens and I said "No, but I'm willing to learn". He said "Good enough, you're hired". I had a day job with the US Government so I worked at Bertram's part time two or three evenings a week and all day Sundays for four years until Tanya and I were assigned to the US Embassy in Bangkok. Thailand in 2004. Tanya and I attended our first Pen Show in Las Vegas in 1999 (I think I bought one pen). In 2000 we went to the Washington DC show for the first time where I was shocked by the size and overwhelmed by the selection of pens. I was already selling some items on eBay and started to find pens to sell. At the 2001 Miami pen show I met a guy from Panama who had a huge inventory of new-old-stock Waterman pens to sell at an excellent price. My bother-in-law Dan and I flew to Panama to take a look and we made a deal. Everything was packed up and we were ready to leave on the morning of September 11, 2001. We all know what happened that day. We were stuck in Panama for two more weeks but were on the first plane out when flights resumed. That Waterman pen deal got Tanya and I started on an amazing adventure and the rest is history. I have met so many wonderful people and made many good friends in the pen community. I have learned so much. I am now retired from the US Government and sell pens full time from our home in Rock Hill, South Carolina. We are loving the southern weather and hospitality. The pens just keep on coming and business is as good as ever. Cheers ya'll, Bob
